In this article, we will take a look at the steps to configure an alarm with a particular notification channel in BizTalk360. The primary step before you can map an alarm with the notification channel is to configure the notification channels. Click here to view the article on how to configure notification channels in BizTalk360. We will show the detailed steps to configure an alarm with both the pre-defined notification channel options - Slack and ServiceNow - in this article.


Configuring an Alarm with Slack Notification Channel

Follow the steps as shown below to configure an alarm with the Slack Notification Channel in BizTalk360 -

  1. Log in to BizTalk360 (as Super User)
  2. Click Monitoring below the environment selection pane
  3. Select Manage Alarms
  4. Click New Alarm
  5. Select For Threshold Monitoring to create the current alarm specific to threshold monitoring. Select For Health Check Notification to create the current alarm specific to being able to receive health check alerts. Select For Data Monitoring to create the current alarm specific to data monitoring. Select For Consolidated Monitoring to create an alarm for threshold monitoring, health check notification, and data monitoring. For this purpose, let us select For Threshold Monitoring.
  6. Enter a descriptive name for the Alarm, Email id (you can enter multiple email ids as comma/semi-colon separated values), and Alarm Description
  7. Click Next. Make the necessary settings for Threshold violation.
  8. In the Advanced (Notifications) screen, you will notice the Notification Channel(s) section. In this section, depending on the configuration settings (if you have already configured Slack and ServiceNow), you will notice Slack and ServiceNow listed with a toggle icon against them.
  9. Since in this section, we are dealing with configuring the alarm with Slack, toggle the button against the Slack Notification channel (B360.Notifier.SlackNotification).
  10. In order for BizTalk360 to be able to trigger notifications into Slack, you need to enter the username that you use to log in to Slack, and the channel where you want the notifications to be triggered.
    Please note that you need to append the channel name with the "#" symbol.
  11. Click OK to create the alarm
  12. Whenever there is a threshold violation in the environment, you will receive the email notifications (in case you have set up SMTP in BizTalk360 Settings) and the notification to Slack in the specified channel 


Please remember to map the alarm with specific artifacts once you have created the alarm.

Configuring an Alarm with ServiceNow Notification Channel

Follow the steps as shown below to configure an alarm with the ServiceNow Notification Channel in BizTalk360 -

  1. Log in to BizTalk360 (as Super User)
  2. Click Monitoring under the environment selection pane
  3. Select Manage Alarms
  4. Click New Alarm
  5. Select For Threshold Monitoring to create the current alarm specific to threshold monitoring. Select For Health Check Notification to create the current alarm specific to being able to receive health check alerts. Select For Data Monitoring to create the current alarm specific to data monitoring. Select For Consolidated Monitoring to create an alarm for threshold monitoring, health check notification, and data monitoring. For this purpose, let us select For Threshold Monitoring.
  6. Enter a descriptive name for the Alarm, Email id (you can enter multiple email ids as comma/semi-colon separated values), and Alarm Description
  7. Click Next. Make the necessary settings for Threshold violation.
  8. In the Advanced (Notifications) screen, you will notice the Notification Channel(s) section. In this section, depending on the configuration settings (if you have already configured Slack and ServiceNow), you will notice Slack and ServiceNow listed with a toggle icon against them.
  9. Since in this section, we are dealing with configuring the alarm with ServiceNow, toggle the button against the ServiceNow Notification channel (B360.Notifier.ServiceNowNotification).
  10. In order for BizTalk360 to be able to trigger notifications into ServiceNow, you need to enter the short description, the impact, and urgency into the corresponding fields.
  11. Click OK to create the alarm
  12. Whenever there is a threshold violation in the environment, you will receive the email notifications (in case you have set up SMTP in BizTalk360 Settings) and the notification to ServiceNow
