There might have been situations when, as a developer, you would have expected to have an easy way to install/uninstall a DLL into the Global Assembly Cache (GAC). The current practice is to install a separate tool - Gacutil.exe to install/uninstall a DLL into GAC. This is not a practical approach on a day-to-day basis. This is where BizTalk NoS Ultimate add-in feature "Fast register/unregister in GAC quickly" will come into play. By using this add-in feature, you can accomplish the install/uninstall into GAC easily right from the Visual Studio screen.


Please note that you need to be running Visual Studio as an "Administrator" in order to be able to perform the registering/unregistering on GAC operations. If you fail to do this step, you will be prompted with a warning message as follows:

Please open the Visual Studio in Run as Administrator to proceed the GAC operation


Register In GAC

Follow the steps as shown below to register the DLL into the GAC:

  1. Once the BizTalk NoS Ultimate add-in has been installed, open Visual Studio. You will notice the NoS Add-in icons in the solution explorer section.
  2. Select a project from the list. Right click the project name and select "Register in GAC" under "BizTalk NoS"
  3. If the operation was successful, you will notice a confirmation message as "Register in GAC has been completed successfully!"

Unregister From GAC

Follow the steps as shown below to unregister the DLL from the GAC:

  1. Once the BizTalk NoS Ultimate add-in has been installed, open Visual Studio. You will notice the NoS Add-in icons in the solution explorer section.
  2. Select a project from the list. Right click the project name and select "Unregister from GAC" under "BizTalk NoS"
  3. If the operation was successful, you will notice a confirmation message as "Unregister from GAC has been completed successfully!"
